Rules and Regulations

Registration & Rosters

  1. To play in a KSL event, all players and coaches, managers and trainers must be registered
    with the Klevr Super League.
  2. Final Team rosters must be submitted to the KSL no later than October 1st.
  3. Each team must play registered and rostered players only.
  4. Each team must roster between 10 players and 1 goalie to 15 players and 2 goalies.
  5. Each team can AP up to 5 current KSL players. AP players can only be used to get to 10 players and 1 goalie.
  6. Each team can ask for goalie relief at any time. In event play, goalie relief must be approved by the KSL Commissioner prior to the commencement of the game. All efforts must be made to cover the goalie need internally and from a team below (ie. younger age or tier) before asking for goalie relief.
  7. A player cannot be moved from one roster to another roster within or outside of their current organization.
  8. All players will play within their own age group. A player may move up if deemed acceptable by the player’s organization. Special circumstances may be granted to teamswho may require players to play ‘down” an age level. For example, a 2016 goalie may play 2017 if approved by the Commissioner.
  9. Each team must sign off on their roster in GameSheet App before each game at the Tournament Office.

Tournaments & Showcases

  1. Hockey Canada rules will be used for all games with the following additional rules for Tournaments and Showcases.
  2. Games will be played 5 vs 5 full-ice.
  3. Teams must register at the Tournament Office prior to their first game. Teams are to verify that their roster is complete and accurate at check-in.
    1. Only players on the approved roster are eligible to play in the tournament.
    2. Coaches are to sign the GameSheet on the iPad prior to each game in the Tournament Office.
  4. All games will be 3 stop time periods 12min x 12min x 12min.
  5. In all cases, if we have ice allocation that will allow us to do so, we will extend the duration of each game.
  6. Pre-game Warmup:
    1. The warmup will be posted at 15 minutes and will not stop until the first stoppage of play, this will allow all games to begin on time and prevent any untimely delays.
    2. Example: Warmup is 3-minutes, Period 1 is 12-minutes. The clock will be set at 15 minutes. The clock will not stop until the first stoppage in the play of the
      game. Coaches must ensure the players are ready for puck drop at the 12-minute mark.
    3. Teams are to provide their own warmup pucks.
  7. Handshakes will take place after each game. Any verbal or physical incident in the handshake line will result in immediate suspension for the remainder of the event. The
    player will be under review and will only be eligible to rejoin the league with commissioner approval.
  8. Ice will be flooded prior the start of each game unless advised otherwise by the Tournament Director.
  9. All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 5 games in each showcase event and 4 games in a tournament.
  10. Teams must be prepared to play up to 15 minutes before their scheduled start time.
  11. Home jerseys will be white (or lighter colour). If a colour conflict arises, the home team will be asked to wear their alternate set. If the home team does not have an alternate
    set, the visiting team will be asked to wear their alternate set.
  12. If there is a 7-goal spread at any point during the game, the clock shall become runtime until the spread is reduced to 5 goals. If there is a 5-goal spread in the 3rd period, the
    clock shall become runtime until the spread is reduced to 3 goals. If during runtime a penalty is assessed, 2-minute penalties will be posted as 3-minutes and 5-minute penalties will be posted as 7-minutes.
  13. No time outs in the preliminary games. One 30-second time out per team, per game, inall quarter finals, semi-final and championship games.
  14. Penalties:
    1. Minor Penalties will be 2 minutes
    2. Major Penalties will be 5 minutes with automatic removal from the game. A player receiving a 5-minute penalty will have to be reinstated by the Commissioner before playing any further games.
  15. A Coach or Team Rep who is removed from a game will be removed for the remainder of the tournament and will be prohibited from participating with the team in any capacity.
    Failure to do so, will result in immediate review by the Commissioner and KSL Executive and may result in further suspension.
  16. Any suspension received in the tournament will be served in the tournament where possible. Any fighting penalty will result in immediate tournament expulsion.
  17. Referees and tournament officials will have zero tolerance for profanity, obscene gestures, discriminatory slurs and verbal abuse from coaches, players and parents.
  18. It is up to each team to find out what, if any, suspensions occurred in their game, by their team, and what suspensions are to be served in the tournament.
  19. Any team playing with a suspended player will have that game(s) defaulted by a 3-0
    score and the Head Coach suspended for 3 games.
  20. If there is a tie game at the end of regulation time during playoff games, the following overtime rules will apply:
    1. 2-minutes played 3vs3,
    2. If still tied, 1-minutes played 2vs2
    3. If still tied, 1-minute played 1vs1
    4. If tie remains, a sudden death shootout will be used with 1 player from each team. Should it still be tied after 1 shooter, the sudden death shootout until
      there is a winner. All players on the bench must shoot prior to a player shooting for a second time. Shooters of both teams will shoot at the same time from the Center Line.
  21. In a situation of significant delay (ie. power outage, ambulance call etc) KSL executive reserves the right to alter length of game play to adhere to our ice contract schedule.
  22. In the event of an emergency at the facility, we will follow the procedures and direction as described in our facility rental permit and by facility management.
  23. In the event of an injury:
    1. Team trainers shall care for the injured player within the guidelines of their training and facility procedures (i.e. ambulance, evacuation, etc).
    2. Trainers shall complete an incident report which is to be provided to the Tournament Director.
  24. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to make decisions regarding interpretation of the rules, objections and protests. All decisions are final.
  25. There will be no protests entertained on referee’s decisions. All other decisions on rules, protests and conduct will be made by the Tournament Committee and are final.
  26. It is the responsibility of the coaches and team officials to ensure that there are 2 team officials (or designated parents) in the dressing room with the players at all times, from the time the players enter the room to the last player leaving. Dressing rooms are to be cleared, inspected and keys left in the dressing room door within 30 minutes of the
    game ending. The bench and dressing room is to be cleaned by departing team. Any damage found by arriving team is to be reported to the tournament office. Any damages that occur will be the responsibility of the team and bills for damages will be assessed and could result in the team being expelled from the balance of the tournament.
  27. The tournament photographer is authorized to access to the player bench and penalty box to take photographs during play, the photographer assumes all liability.

Rankings

Tournament/ Showcase

  1. Following are the tie breaking rules for determining Division standings “in order” (once a tie breaking rule is used or not applicable, it will not be used again)
  2. Most Points (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss)
  3. Winner of head-to-head game (only if two teams are tied)
  4. Goal Differential: Goals For ÷ (Goals For + Goals Against)
  5. Fewest goals against
  6. Fewest penalty minutes in all games played
  7. The team that scored the earliest goal in their round robin game involving the tied teams
  8. Coin flip (team from farthest away will call the flip, winner of flip gets higher position)

Season:

  1. After the first event each team will be provided with a “soft ranking” which will determine which tier and level they will play in at the next event. This will be fluid throughout the season.
  2. A team may play up or down an age level depending on their ranking
  3. The goal is to have meaningful competition at every level and in every game.

Exhibition Games

  1. KSL teams may schedule games with KSL teams only during the KSL season (Sept 1st - March 31st) KSL teams may play Non-KSL teams from outside of Ontario (example
    Quebec, US). Failure to comply with this agreement will result in immediate review of the organization which could lead to immediate removal from the league.
  2. All games must have at least one referee and timekeeper. We should always strive to have 2 referees.
  3. KSL Tournament and Showcase expectations for parents, coaches, players etc. are to be upheld during exhibition games.
  4. KSL teams are to closely adhere to the 3 hours of team practice per week when scheduling exhibition games. Development is our focus in the KSL.
